Triton, Outlander and Eclipse Cross

Cars are the hardest thing to generate. They're what we know best by heart.

People accept a face that's nearly right. A car, never. The windscreen proportion, the exact grille pattern, the number of spokes in a wheel, the curve where light slides down the flank — anything out of place and the image stops being that model. Triton, Outlander and Eclipse Cross had to cross farmland, coastline, mountain road and city centre while remaining exactly the car that's in the showroom.

The pickup lives at work: harvest, dust, cattle, dirt road. The grime on the bodywork is part of the argument — it just can't hide the car's line.

Outlander and Eclipse Cross

On the urban side the problem inverts: with no dust to hide behind, every reflection off the glass towers lands whole on the bodywork. Wet asphalt at the end of the day is the worst and the best set — it gives the car back twice.
